The Wanderers were founded in 1896 by Frank Potter-Irwin, assisted by Arthur Magson. We were one of the first teams to be founded in Essex and still are a thriving amateur Rugby Union club on and off the field. We like to feel we contribute a good deal to the fabric and quality of life of the surrounding community; by providing rugby playing enjoyment to many people each week; by providing spectator pleasure to rugby followers and club supporters and by providing the traditional fellowship and social life associated with a thriving rugby club, weekends and weekdays alike. We currently field four senior sides on Saturday afternoons, catering for all standards of Rugby, and a Junior Section which has teams for all age groups. We always welcome new faces, whether you are a player or spectator. As a club we are very proud of our history. To read more about the history of the club, click on the “History” link to the left of this page and follow the “Interesting Facts about Ilford Wanderer’s” and the "Celebrated Wanderers" links. If you like the sound of what the Wanderers have to offer, please take a look around the rest of the site, and if you would like to join us or if you have any questions or comments on this web site, please contact us through E-Mail or by telephone. You can find these on the contacts page. We will be very pleased to hear from you.
